Spiced Superfood Hot Chocolate

Ahh, another week, and another day literally freezing my butt off. I really love strongly dislike Winter. In a bid to remain positive, I thought i’d write a list of things that I actually like about Winter in the hope that it will distract me from the fact that I can’t feel my fingers.

Things I like about winter:

  1. Winter fashion, it undeniably rocks. The layers, the oversized jumpers and scarves.
  2. Open fires. There’s really just something nice about an open fire, it’s kinda romantic and gives me all these homey vibes
  3. Comfort food. A curry, stew, and soup just doesn’t go down the same way in Summer, you really appreciate the warmth and comfort of these foods during Winter
  4. Hot chocolate… I mean, need I say more? The mug keeps your hands warm and the chocolate goodness warms your soul. The perfect segway into my newest recipe, the Spiced Superfood Hot Chocolate

Spiced Superfood Hot Chocolate

I’ve always been a hot chocolate lover, it was always a bit of a treat growing up. We would get one at the local footy ground on the rare occasion that I would go and watch my little brother play football. Or if mum was getting her caffeine fix, she’d get us a hot chocolate… with marshmallows of course. While I’m still partial to an old school hot choccie, I decided it needed a Healthy Karma revamp. Since my bod can’t really handle dairy (Ice-cream I still love you), the first step of my hot chocolate overhaul was to make it dairy free. Easy, my go to vanilla almond milk would do just fine. The second step, give it a nutrient boost! I swapped out the traditional cocoa powder for cacao powder, added some maca powder and cinnamon. Lastly, make sure it still tastes delish. I added some extra vanilla flavour with vanilla extract and sweetened it up with coconut sugar. You can use any kind of sweetener you like (maple syrup, honey, agave) but I love the taste of coconut sugar, it has a really deep caramel flavour which compliments the cacao and maca! The end result… Absolute knockout. Give my Spiced Superfood Hot Chocolate a go, and let me know what you think!
