2A Prospect Hill Road,
Camberwell, VIC 3124
I had heard great things about Prospect Espresso, I read reviews and stalked instagram, all the usual activities before you head out for brunch. Thomas had been a few times and had said the food was great every time – all great signs. Parking was easy around the back with 1-2 hour parking available, a short walk to the main road and we arrived at Prospect Espresso. Admittedly it was smaller than I was expecting, nothing wrong with a cosy cafe. I could imagine it would get quite busy on the weekends with limited seating, luckily we went on a Friday so getting a seat wasn’t a big ask.
We were both starving so were keen to order pretty quickly. You already know the coffee order, almond milk cappuccino and double espresso comin’ right up. The staff were very friendly and attentive, providing us with menus and taking our order. It was a tough toss up between the pumpkin fritters and smashed avocado, both sounding delicious, I opted for the fritters in an attempt to ‘broaden my horizons’. Thomas ordered the coconut egg scramble, which I was curious to try. Both of us ordered a side of mushrooms. As it was not busy, the food didn’t take long at all, was presented beautifully and smelt incredible. My mouth was watering instantly!
It was a pleasant surprise to see how large the serving of mushrooms was, there’s nothing worse than ordering a side of mushrooms and getting three morsels. The servings were huge, and I hate to admit I was unable to get through mine and had to pass it over to Tom. My pumpkin fritters were so delicious and full of flavour, my only criticism were that they were on the dry side; I didn’t mind though, they kind of reminded me of falafels! The goats cheese was fresh and went extremely well with the pumpkin and spices. Tom’s coconut scramble was so lovely, the coconut flavour was evident but subtle and gave the traditional scrambled eggs a ‘thai feel’ to it. Both meals were very unique, the service was wonderful and the overall experience at Prospect Espresso was great. We will definitely be returning!
