Traditional pre workout and I, we haven’t always got along. I’ve tried too many to count. Some made my entire body tingle and feel itchy. Others left me wondering why I’ve forked out hard earned cash cause ummm I don’t feel anything. More often than not, pre workout has left me feeling sick, either during or after a workout. Not ideal. I’d say the artificial cocktail probably doesn’t agree with my bod. Enter, Bondi Coffee.
If you’ve been following me on healthy_karma or reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that this chick – LOVES coffee. Like a next level love. So when I had the chance to try this barista style instant coffee blend, I was keen. I mean, who doesn’t like trying new things… especially when it’s coffee. Before I delve into a full review I want to make it abundantly clear that I do not endorse Bondi Coffee as a weight loss solution or a quick fix to dropping a dress size. You guys should know by now that I am a firm believer in having a balanced lifestyle, and loving yourself above all else.
With that all said, I have been loving drinking this coffee on the daily. It’s an easy swap for your usual cappuccino on the way to work, but with a heap of added benefits. So basically you’re getting more for your cup! Bondi Coffee has two blends, a lean-green blend and a workout booster blend. The workout booster blend contains the usual caffeine kick from the coffee but also functional ingredients including Vitamins B6, B12, Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs), Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), Beta-Alanine and Choline. MCT’s is the healthy fat contained within coconut oil, and can help you to feel satiated while painting blood sugar levels. For a while back home I was having my morning coffee with some coconut oil and I was loving it, so having MCT’s already in the coffee is a huge plus for me.
The lean green blend is a little different. It still contains the MCT’s and Choline but also has Matcha Green Tea, Green Coffee, Spirulina, Guarana and Ginseng. Matcha green tea and spirulina are both well known superfoods, and food good reason. Matcha is a highly concentrated source of antioxidants, some studies have also shown that the green tea extract is effective in increasing your metabolic rate. Spirulina on the other hand is a type of blue-green algae that is an absolute nutrition powerhouse. It is a great source of antioxidants but also holds anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that spirulina may enhance endurance and increase muscle strength. It’s a seriously amazing superfood… and it’s already in your coffee!
With all the nutrition stuff out of the way, the main thing comes down to taste. Initially I was drinking the Bondi Coffee with almond milk, I found it to be a little bitter. However, I switched to using an oat milk and it made it taste SO much better. I also think the convenience of having individual sachets also makes it a whole lot easier, plus if you’re dropping into a cafe you can just ask for a cup of hot water. I’ll pop all the details down below if you want to check them out and start incorporating my new pre workout into your life!
