How to make all natural bath bombs

There’s nothing like having a bath. Whether you’re doing it for relaxation, or muscle recovery, there’s no comparison to a warm boiling hot bath, especially on a cold day. In my opinion if you’re going to go to all that effort of waiting for the bath to fill up, doing that thing where you dip your toes in and get used to the water (tell me I’m not the only one); then we might as well do the whole bath thing right! I love putting my favourite netflix series on and getting myself a bath bomb. Oh yes, a bath bomb, is there anything that ignites the child in you more than a bath bomb? Didn’t think so. Now usually I get my bath bombs from Lush; and by ‘usually’ I mean about once a month. I’m not a regular bather, I ain’t got time fo’ dat! So really, when I have a bath, it’s a special occasion. HOWEVER. Working out on the regular has had my muscles feeling ridiculously sore, especially with this cold weather; not to mention the lush bath bombs can be a little on the pricey side. If you read my post on 15 hacks that will save you money, you would have seen my tip to “become a DIY expert”. This my friends, is step number one in become that expert.

Bath Bombs

These bath bombs are super easy to mix together, not to mention they’re cheap! A great gift for family and friends, or just keep them for yourself and your own baths! Feel free to use whatever colouring you like. I used what I had on hand but I would love to try making these again with some different coloured powders (beetroot, blue spirulina, pomegranate eek!). You can also just use plain old colouring drops if that’s all you have, I just personally prefer to go natural. If you’ve got little ones this would be a great activity to get them involved in, so have some fun and get cracking!

Bath Bomb Whether it's for relaxation or muscle recovery, these bath bombs will take your next bath to another level!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 1/2 cup corn flour
  • 1/2 cup epsom salts
  • 3 teaspoons coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon total of essential oil (I used spearmint, orange and lime)
  • 1/4 teaspoon spirulina (liquid or powder)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric

Instructions

  1. Add all the dry ingredients into a bowl, give it a whisk until the ingredients are well combined
  2. Add all the wet ingredients into a separate bowl
  3. Slowly add small amounts of the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing as you go
  4. Keep whisking until all the wet ingredients are added into the dry
  5. Give the mix a good stir using your hands to make sure it’s all really well combined. It should feel like wet sand
  6. Push the bath bomb mixture into your desired mould. I used both a silicon chocolate mould for small ones and a heart shaped measuring cup for big ones. You can use pretty much anything (ice cube tray, christmas tree ornament, muffin tins etc)
  7. Really pack the mixture in until you can’t fit anymore, then turn out and allow to dry for 24 hours
  8. If the mould fall apart when you try to turn them out, you haven’t packed enough in!
  9. Store bath bombs in an airtight container, when ready to use just put them in your bath and let the fun begin!
