She’s the beauty blogger who has quite literally blown up the instagram world, and has gained over 400 thousand followers in a mere two weeks. The response to Angela’s instagram story templates has been incredible and I couldn’t wait to chat with this viral sensation and get to know who The Sunday Chapter really is!
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions lovely! What inspired you start blogging as The Sunday Chapter?
Angela: I would spend hours every day reading blogs (mostly beauty and fashion reviews) and I became completely immersed in the blogging world. At the same time, I had just finished my studies in PR and was feeling incredibly lost. I created my blog as an escape to everyday life and to document the things I love; whether it be a new outfit, a latest lipstick obsession, or ticking somewhere off my bucket list. My goal is to instil a spark of inspiration into your everyday life and cultivate a like-minded community.
How would you describe your style?
Angela: I’ve always found this question difficult to answer because my style can greatly depend on my mood and environment. Most often I’d describe it as simple, feminine and trendy, but other times I love something a bit more edgy.
With all success, there is always negativity. Your explosive success has created a lot of drama in the instagram world, how have you managed to stay positive with the negative backlash?
Angela: It was really difficult at the start. I’ve had more cynics in the past 5 days than the past 5 years. I’ve learned the best approach is to delete, block and move on because no matter what you do, you’re never going to be able to please them and their only goal is to spread negativity. Instead, I’ve focused all my energy onto the positive and supportive people that have come out of this.
What does your morning routine look like?
Angela: I wake up around 8am naturally every morning and grab a bottle of water which I try to finish before breakfast. I brush my teeth and start on my skincare routine which doesn’t consist of a lot, but as a blogger I’m always trying new products. I remove any dirt that’s accumulated overnight with the Garnier Micellar water, then use a cleanser (I’m loving the Dermalogica UltraCalming cleanser at the moment) and my favourite moisturiser, Peter Thomas Roth’s Water Drench Cloud Cream moisturiser mixed in with a drop of rosehip oil. I’m obsessed with oils in my skincare routine. Finally, I use Dermalogica’s stress positive eye lift under my eyes – it’s just so cooling on the skin. If I have time, sometimes I’ll use a jade roller too, especially if my skin is feeling a bit puffy/tired.
Then I make my coffee and breakfast, my go-to at the moment is avo smash on toast or oatmeal. Some days I’ll have meetings and head out for breakfast and then it’s straight onto emails!
Do you have any advise for people who may be looking to get into the blogging industry?
Angela: There are so many incredible content creators out there today and a lot of them are struggling to grow because of that reason. How do you set yourself apart? Don’t believe there are too many bloggers out there or that it’s too late to start, there is room for everyone in this industry. You just need to start looking at more innovative ways at how you can add value into your audience’s lives. I would start changing your thought pattern from “how do I gain a bigger audience?” to “how can I add more value?”. Focus on creating and improving your content, always be interested in who your followers are and be consistent. I post everyday and my audience knows they can always rely on me for new content.
If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing what would it be?
Angela: “Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” I’ve missed far too many opportunities because of fear about how uncomfortable I’d feel. You can’t grow when you’re stuck in your comfort zone.
You’re stuck on a desert island and you can only have 3 items… What are they?
Angela: Flare gun, radio & a boat to take me elsewhere… does that count?!
