Who woulda thought there were dates that involved things other than drinking, dinner or sitting on your butt at the movies?! Whether you’re here reading this for your first date with someone or to spark inspiration for your thousandth date I thought this would be a bit of fun and something a little different! If you haven’t already realised from The Brunch List or my Instagram, I LOVE food. But for me, there’s nothing better than getting active with your lover and it turns out, there are a ton of fun and active things to do with your significant other! So keep reading for my fun date ideas for the active couple.
Hikes
It’s challenging, breathtaking (literally) and usually worth the view. Going on hikes can be an awesome date idea, plus theres extra bonding time if you get lost! Whether it’s around the corner or you make a full day trip of it, going on an adventure and hike is free.. Bonus points if you pack a picnic. Here are a few places to adventure to: Dandenong Ranges, Macedon Ranges, Wilsons Promotory, Fire Trail Montrose.
Partner Workout
While it definitely won’t feel like a typical date, if you’re both into the gym why not put each other to the test?! If you go to seperate gyms, set a day and head to one of them. Let your other half put you through their style of workout, while they do it with you! You’ll get an insight into their type of training, plus they can show off a little bit (or you can). The next time, it’ll be your turn to plan out the workout at your gym, a little bit of revenge if I do say so myself. Better yet, why not head to a group class at your gym or somewhere like F45/The Woodshed. They offer free trials and you can both sweat it out together without having to think of the workout yourself!
Pilates/Yoga
If you thought pilates and yoga were just for the chicks, you thought wrong. I surprised my boyfriend with a session at KX Pilates Oakleigh and he absolutely loved it! If you’re looking to shake up your workout and spend time with your honey, pilates and yoga are great classes! If you’re not convinced, have a read of my 5 Reasons You Need to try KX Pilates post.
Rock Climbing
Let me start by saying, holy sh*t, rock climbing is SO much harder than I thought it would be! Granted, I hadn’t been since I was about 7 so my memory was a little sketchy, but I did not anticipate the burning arms, sore back and drips of sweat down my forehead. I’m not painting the prettiest of dates here… but it was so much fun. Nothing like hanging at an uncomfortable height with the only thing stopping you from plummeting to the ground is the rope in your partners hands; talk about the ultimate test of trust.
Bounce
If you’re not familiar with Bounce or similar trampolining places, it’s basically a playground for kids and adults alike. A whole centre full of trampolines. If that doesn’t scream epic date (and possibly injury) I don’t know what does. Warning, DO NOT go on school holidays. These trampoline places can be absolute mayhem and no one needs to get in a fight with a pre-pubescent 10 year old while you’re on a date. Steer clear of the holidays and you’re in for a seriously fun and exhausting time… because you’re bouncing guys… keep it clean. Make it even better and go with a few couples, prove who the superior couple is with a round of dodgeball and just do you best not to hit anyone in the head.
Run/Walk
A great one for both the new and well established couple, walking together encourages conversation and let’s be honest as a new couple there’s always plenty to talk about so why not get out and about while you do it! Whether it’s just around your neighbourhood or a planned adventure, you’ll be surprised how long you can spend walking with your significant other. If you opt for a run, well, nothing like some healthy competition between two lovers. Make sure you end with a sprint and kick their butt, loser has to cook dinner!
Ice Skating/Rollerblading
I promise rollerblading is not just for children… Out of the two, I definitely pick rollerblading over ice skating because I damn well suck at ice skating. I watched the winter olympics with envy, thinking to myself, I literally struggle to get myself around a rink let alone twirling and throwing myself up in the air to land safely back on the ice. While I’ll never be seen making headlines for my skating ability, rollerblading and ice skating are both super fun dates, you can spend hours out there and if you wanna be super #cringecute; hold hands while you do it!
What are your favourite types of dates? I’d love to know!
Aww I’m looking forward to have a boyfriend to share all this fun things with! Great ideas!
I’m so glad you like them! And yes, it’s definitely a lot of fun making memories with your boyfriend xx
