We all know how important water is for our bodies, after all our bodies are made of up to 60% water. If you’re anything like your gal over here, I absolutely SUCK at staying on top of my water intake. It’s definitely something I’d like to work on for 2018!
Water is essential for literally all bodily functions, yet it’s not until we have dry lips or ‘feel’ thirsty that we drink. Sure most of us know if our pee is dark (just bein’ nice and real with you all) then we need another glass of water but there are so many other signs too! Dehydration can have so many detrimental effects that you may not even realise are connected. Here are the major signs you might be dehydrated:
-
Headaches:
This one I always suffer from, without fail if I haven’t been drinking enough water I get a shocking headache. Before you grab a pain killer, grab a bottle of water and start chugging.
-
Dryness:
Overall dryness is a pretty sure sign of dehydration. Dry or cracked lips, a dry mouth, dry eyes and dry flaky skin are all signs of dehydration. Up your intake of water for a healthier glowing complexion!
-
Fatigue/Dizziness/Confusion:
We’ve all been there. Trying to concentrate on your work in the arvo, writing that uni essay – the word mesh together, things become a little blurry. All you can think about how warm and comfy your bed is. I hear ya. You’re dehydrated so get yourself a glass of good ol’ water. To keep it from happening keep a water bottle at your desk to drink throughout the day!
Now obviously you don’t just have to drink plain bottled water, you can get your water through fruits, vegetables, herbal teas and naturally flavoured water. I LOVE flavoured water with strawberries, cucumber and chia seeds. As a general rule, try to drink 0.035 litres of water per kilogram of body weight. So for a 58kg gal like myself, I should be drinking 2 litres of water a day.. but since I sweat like crazy and I workout regularly, I need to aim for more to replenish!
